Some good ones available from the two german guys who were in martinique. The boats wont be back to dunkerque yet, but they are available at a price.

Good to know that the addiction is not confined to some areas and pushers. I first saw a Mk2 and felt my hand wandering towards my cheque book. It did not need much to persuade me that buying new sails for my old boat was not viable, and that I should be looking at a Mk2, with sails already on it. When faced by these options, the weak willed will cave in. It took a while, but despite my resistance to try these boats, I eventually did so and that was the end of it. Believe me, there is no turning back. For those who, despite their better judgement, get involved, there is no high like it, particularly with the smack from the big kite. Abandon hope all who enter here. I am Thunderguts and I am a Mk2aholic.

Must see the pix from the Martinique worlds The French boat's supposed to be OK. At least the newer ones were. Need confirmation from people who were there.

Did not look at them all that much but the French boats have some different features particularly with regard to spinnaker storeage and launching. Some have bags beside the mast, some have offset spinnaker chutes on the foredeck. These at least look large. Some have conventional chutes.
A number of them have roller reefing for the jib which may yet prove a good idea with the larger kite. I am beginning to wonder whether we would be better off without the jibs when the kite is up.
Am not sure whether they are still using Super Spars masts and booms and whether these will be up to the loads that we put on them.
I guess one major plus must be that they won't keep you waiting for over a year when you order one!
If I was to buy one I would consider partially fitting it out myself in a manner similar to the current Mader setup.
John Gill crewed one at the worlds. Complained that he was breaking things at one point but did well in the end although this might have been due to his Polish improving (had Polish helm)!

What we need is a british builder, there appears some interest in new boats, I'm interested, but I don't want to go through what el presisdent is going through, I would have thrown the towel in with Marder long ago. One year and still no boat, if Marder is not interested in building Tempest then why not approach a british keel boat builder like Ovington (i know dave has sadly departed this world but the company is still going) Dingwall and there is a couple of FF15 builders around who could be interested. All we need is the molds.

I've heard that there are several sets of moulds kickeing arround in the UK. Does anyone know if they are in any fit state for use though?

speak to el-presidente. he was telling me that mader have "the plug"
The french boats looked the business to me in martinique despite jon gills problems and having keels that were to long. I would always specify proctor spars rather than superspars on a tempest due to the loads, especially with the bigger kite. you could see the mast bending forwards in the blow we had. The Maders certainly seem to last well, mine is nearly 30 years old and still going strong.

Wouldn't it be good to sail a MKII for us sailing a MKI. Hang on a minute with the old boat retiered to Martinique and a new one waiting at Mader's boat yard, we will be joining the MKII club next year.

French Tempests.......hmmmmm I dont want one, but if they are cheap enough and measure correctly why not? There are some very "quaint" features...boil in the bag spinnaker anyone...I never want to see annother! Slippery Sam is now 9 years old, has been sailed and crashed by a pair of witless oafs twice a week for ever and I cant imagine a real world deal that would get me to swap....nuff said! But dont let me put you off, its your money and the more Tempests on the water the better.

French Tempest. Were the problems you had - structural or superficial? Did you break fittings because of bad installation or did things go boom because the glass they were mounted on was bad??
I heard about the Pole... you mustn's break Poles.

It must have been the Pole hitting the Gill that caused the pole to break.
