Great event last weekend at Ullswater with the Solings. Over 20 boats in total making a worthwhile open meeting. Very similar speed and same course requirments. It has to be the way forward when organising future opens and nationals, possibly even worlds.
Can't quite see the point however in a three man keel boat with no trapeze, what does the extra person do? Just someone else to argue with the helm and finding one crew can be difficult enough somrtimes

solings aren't that bad, we've gotta race against hotfoot 20's and j21's? both are 3 man, planing keelboats, but again no trapeze...losers! for some reason (and i don't know what their problem is) they say that they need the 3rd person for the spinnaker! with our 20 year old boat that is more like a submarine we can still usually keep up in a good wind, they can only really beat us in light wind, where the leaks and rough hull hurt us.

What great event, more of this please, with 11 Tempest on the water with 9 Solings it was great sight. It becomes worth while for the host club both socialy and financialy, why not approach boats like the K6 or even fyling fifteens, gives the Tempest fleet the opertunity to show the boat at different venues
