We have been invited join in the annual autumn Soling event at Kielder Reservoir - a huge inland lake in the middle of the Pennines in Northumberland. The following letter gives the gist of the event which is at the beginning of October.
John
Very good to meet you yesterday – it was the first time we have been to Ullswater and, once over the terror of 212 boats on the start line, we LOVED it. We were sailing an Osprey – also a Proctor boat.
I have talked to our Commodore and he very much welcomes the chance to invite Tempests to Kielder.
However, we will have to look at the format of the weekend if boats other than Solings are interested in coming.
We have developed good relations with Solings and they have come to us in the Autumn for many years, and it has often been the best attended event of their year.
What they have got used to is boats arriving from Friday morning onwards. They are moored on a trot at the Yacht Club.
This has given the opportunity of an early start – 10.00 - and 4 races on the Saturday
Dinner is included in the entry fee
Sunday starts promptly at 10.00 again, there are 3 races and they are off the water by about 12.30pm, packing to go.
The courses are mostly Windward Leeward with the occasional Olympic.
With other classes invited I would imagine a later start on Saturday because of those who cannot come on Friday.
Dinner would probably not be included as Solings are 3 man boats and Tempests are 2.
Maybe all courses would be Olympic.
How were things organised for the Ullswater joint event? I have found a report on the web but no NOR. What is the usual fee for Tempest Open Events? What requirements would you need?
I look forward to hearing from you and hope there will be sufficient interest in the Tempest class for us to progress with a wider event.
Kind regards

Let me know if you are up for this one. We will need to take at least one launching trolley.
