In the hope of making in-roads into this Tempest sailing lark next year, I was wondering what would the best set-up be for a complete novice helm and young lightweight crew. Is there any areas that I should concentrate on? Is there any tuning tips that may make lighter work of things?

Yes, bend your mast more, flatter sails in the overpowered conditions. You guys will get up on a plane faster than anyone so concentrate on the transitions. If you get to a planing state faster, you will lead at the leeward marks.

Make it posible for the helm to easily trim the jib. Its quite a big sail for young arms!

Here's one. put the sails on the boat, put the boat in the water when youve sailed round a bit we will all come to meet you on the pontoon and tell you how you didn't want to do it like that etc.. I think that the advice that you have already had on this from our fellow members (being the operative word!) is uncannily sensible and is great starting point mine excluded of course!
Gird your loins and get down to the club Nige. we'll help you in any way we can!

I would think crewless has a new keen interest in tuning his boat for this lightweight crew.

I cant wait to see how many race he makes in 08. I think his words were, I will look after the baby monday, tuesday, thursday, friday and saturday, but wed night and sunday are my sailing days, and nothing will stop that!
